Zoran Announces Enhanced Interpreter for Microsoft Windows Vista Document Format Used In Digital Printers and Copiers

IPS/XPS Supports Microsoft’s XML Paper Specification (XPS)

Sunnyvale, Calif. - January 17, 2005 - Zoran Corporation (Nasdaq: ZRAN) announced that its IPS/XPS interpreter for Microsoft’s new XPS Document format will be available to printer and multifunction peripheral (MFP) manufacturers through an Early Adopter Program.

“The XPS Document format brings improved document fidelity to end users,” said Vicki Milton, technical product planner for the Digital Documents Platform and Solutions team, Microsoft Corporation. “Zoran is a key supplier of critical components to the print industry, and support for XPS in Zoran’s product line will further accelerate market adoption of the XPS format by printer and MFP vendors.”

The XPS Document format is a paginated representation of electronic paper described in an XML-based format. The XPS Document format is an open, cross-platform document format that allows users to effortlessly create, share, print, and archive paginated documents. Zoran’s release of IPS/XPS will be delivered as a module within Zoran’s complete page description language (PDL) interpreter solution, Integrated Print System™ (IPS) 8.0.

The XPS Document format delivers improved fidelity and supports advanced graphics such as transparencies and gradients. Zoran’s IPS/XPS interpreter accelerates the development of printers and MFPs that directly print these documents with improved performance and a faithful reproduction of the document’s appearance on the screen.

Kevin Andresen, product marketing manager, Zoran’s Imaging Division, will be discussing IPS/XPS and the XPS Document format on a panel at the Lyra Imaging Symposium in Palm Springs, California on January 24. "As the number one supplier of PDLs to the industry, Zoran continues to bring highly innovative solutions to market. By building IPS/XPS on our proven Common Display List, we provide an efficient XPS solution that shares components with our existing IPS PDLs,” said Andresen. “Today, only Zoran can integrate XPS with all leading PDLs in full source code for all of our OEM customers.”

Zoran’s IPS/XPS interpreter targets embedded controllers for color and monochrome printers and MFPs, and raster print drivers that directly support the new XPSDrv print path in Windows Vista. IPS/XPS is also available as a fully configurable Windows Dynamically Linked Library (DLL) and as a filter in the XPSDrv print path. Using the same interpreter implementation for both host-side and embedded-side rendering will improve document fidelity for end users. By providing prerelease IPS/XPS source code through an Early Adopter Program, Zoran assists original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in accelerating product development and bringing their products to market quickly.

IPS Release 8.0, including the full release of IPS/XPS, will be available later in 2006. OEMs interested in the IPS/XPS Early Adopter Program should contact an Imaging division sales representative at 781-638-7500.
